there’s currently an argument on left anarchist twitter about whether or not joining the mafia is revolutionary because it opposes the state and I just wanna say if you think the mafia doesn’t work with the state you’re wrong lmao
i’m just gonna go ahead and say, my step grandpa was once asked to join the italian mafia (legitimately. you don’t have to believe me but i’m not lying lmao).
it’s extremely fucked up, people kill their own family members and friends for ‘betraying’ and it gets cult-like.
people often admire/are interested in the mafia because it seems cool but it’s actually traumatizing and terrible.
Having seen the actual thread, while I don’t know that I necessarily agree with the twitter OP, I would like to point out that what they were actually saying is that the mafia has means of conflict resolution that might be worth adapting in leftist spaces.
“The mafia has a technique that could be useful, let’s think about this” is a far cry from “we should all join the mafia”
Ok but
Op: “People kill their own family.members and friends for ‘betraying’ and it gets fucked up and cult-like”
Doesn’t sound like a good starting point for “the mafia had a technique that could be useful”
…yes, and?
I never said that I thought it was a good idea, I said it was a very *different* idea than what it’s being described as on Tumblr.
I’m a bit lost as to how you got this from “hey so I don’t agree with this person but that’s not what they said”

i don’t mean to sound fake deep but the reason 2018 felt so long was because we’re being fed what’s trending at such a rapid rate that we literally can’t remember half of the shit that even happened anymore. “Black Panther came out in February!” Marvel releases so many movies a year that we completely forget about the last movie as soon as a new one comes out and it repeats in a vicious cycle. “Tide Pods/Ugandan Knuckles was in January!” The life span of memes have been rapidly declining for years and it’s gotten to the point where the average lifespan of a meme is about 2 weeks and then the next thing gets popular and then that lasts for 2 weeks and it just keeps going. We’re literally losing our sense of time because of our rapid consumption of media and pop culture.
“Justice or order. Someday you will have to make that choice.”
“Behind every great fortune, there is a great crime.”
“‘Always faithful.’“ “That’s the promise a Marine makes to his country. They don’t tell you it only goes one way.” “If this country was known for keeping its promises, we wouldn’t need Marines, would we?”
