“you all are great people, and what you’re doing is art, but it’s also a crime punishable by 28 days in prison” is a real sentence that got said to me tonight by a security officer i think i’m living my best life
this is what was happening if anyone was wondering
[image is the results of two polls by Socrates Memes. The first is “Was the Boston Tea Party a permissible protest?” Results: 68% Yes, 32% No. The second is “Is it ever permissible to destroy another person’s property as a form of protest?” Results: 40% Yes, 60% No.]
hey guys if you live in the portland area tomorrow (8/4/18) there’s supposed to be an alt right rally tomorrow on the waterfront, with people open carrying, and the group is known for starting violence/riots with protesters and they’re expected to target people of color and visibly lgbt people so please try and avoid the waterfront or downtown portland if you can
Do yall know what’s going down in Bangladesh? It’s all over the news but if you don’t know, lemme explain:
Basically the government sucks and no one in this country follows any traffic rules, or laws for that matter. People paid to get drivers licenses without going through driving school, and most of them have no morals or patience once their vehicles hit the roads. It’s all ME FIRST. So obviously, there are a lot of road accidents per day across the country, amongst other things.
Now a few days ago there was an accident where a bus went to overtake another bus recklessly, and hit a group of students waiting by the side of the road in the process. At least 7 were killed, but the media announced 2 casualties.
The students have had enough.
For the last 5 days there have been protests all over Dhaka city, mainly in school/college areas. Students dressed in uniform, wearing IDs, chanting “We want justice!!” while parading the streets, that THEY CLEARED.
Yup. Since the law enforcers, police and traffic police can’t do their jobs right, these students of various institutions have taken matters into their own hands. They are taking on the role of traffic police, separating different vehicles into different lanes, and checking each vehicle for the legal documents and actual licenses. Some police officers and ministers didn’t have licenses, and the public knows now.
The students even made a separate emergency lane!! Half of my friends didn’t even know such a thing existed. That puts this country’s usual situation into perspective.
These kids are the heroes we need.
For the first time in many years, the roads have been clear with little road jam.
Except, this is a fight for rights against the government. We want to be able to walk to school or wherever we’re going in safety, without the fear that one random driver will take our life. Apparently that basic need is too much to ask.
Right now, there’s word that members of a bigshot political party are going to take to the streets tomorrow, to beat up protestors; girls and boys alike, of my age who are fighting for this noble cause.
It’s unfair.
I’m praying that they all stay safe, because this protest? It’s hella justified. Although 97% of this country is corrupted, it’s nice to see these people making an effort to change the twisted ways that have somehow become the norm. We’re on international news right now, and maybe in the future, the country might get better.
For now though, this is what’s going on.

This continuing water crisis is tragic (for the people of Flint),
criminal (for the state & county government officials who failed to
put people first) and immoral (because of the long-term damage done to
people’s lives).
for those who are unaware, the state government cut off ALL free water bottle distributions to Flint residents in April 2018, because according to them “the water quality has reached acceptable levels” however this is very obviously NOT acceptable, and without water bottles, or filters, Flint residents do not have access to clean water
right now, Flint residents are only able to receive water bottles through private donations and county level government programs. if you have a few dollars to spare and would like to donate, this is an online donation link for United Way of Genesee County’s Flint Water Fund: http://www.unitedwaygenesee.org/flintwaterfund
also, please consider donating to Mari Copeny’s (AKA Little Miss Flint) latest campaign with Pack Your Back; they are trying to raise funds to provide all the school age children in Flint with a bookbag stuffed full of back to school supplies!! https://www.gofundme.com/LMFPackYourBackChallenge
this is an ambitious project, but incredibly worthwhile to help kids in Flint have happy, healthy childhood experiences even in the midst of this crisis
A hammer pounds away in the living room of a middle class home. A sanding machine smoothes the grain of the wood floor in the dining room.
But this home Pastor Ada Valiente is showing off in Los Angeles, with its refurbished floors, is no ordinary home.
“It would be three families we host here,” Valiente says.
By “host,” she means provide refuge to people who may be sought by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE. The families staying here would be undocumented immigrants, fearing an ICE raid and possible deportation.
The purchase of this home is part of a network formed by Los Angeles religious leaders across faiths in the wake of Donald Trump’s election. The intent is to shelter hundreds, possibly thousands of undocumented people in safe houses across Southern California.
The goal is to offer another sanctuary beyond religious buildings or schools, ones that require federal authorities to obtain warrants before entering the homes.
“That’s what we need to do as a community to keep families together,” Valiente says.
At another Los Angeles neighborhood miles away, a Jewish man shows off a sparsely decorated spare bedroom in his home. White sheets on the bed and the clean, adjacent full bathroom bear all the markers of an impending visit. The man, who asked not to be identified, pictures an undocumented woman and her children who may find refuge in his home someday.
The man says he’s never been in trouble before and has difficulty picturing that moment. But he’s well educated and understands the Fourth Amendment, which gives people the right to be secure in their homes, against unreasonable searches and seizures. He’s pictured the moment if ICE were to knock on his door.
“I definitely won’t let them in. That’s our legal right,” he says. “If they have a warrant, then they can come in. I can imagine that could be scary, but I feel the consequences of being passive in this moment is a little scary.”
